Winter Shootout
 Mt Bachelor
February 6-13, 20010
Trip Coordinator-Mary Beth Wilson

Have you ever skied a volcano?  Well, here’s your chance.  Mt. Bachelor is defined by its setting – a pristine mountain experience that is as pure as the day the volcano erupted 15,000 years ago.  Discover the unique landscape of Mt. Bachelor’s cone in the Cascade Mountains.  Mt. Bachelor is one of the few mountains where it is possible to ride to the very summit and then you have the possibility to head out in any direction on challenging terrain.  Around the broad expanse of the mountain’s circumference more than 70 trails stretch down the slopes – from tight, twisting steeps to corduroy cruisers.  To get to know the mountain better, be sure to take one of the Mountain Host Tours.

For the non-skier or those folks who just want to take a break from skiing, the week will be filled with a variety of things to do.  For the young at heart, Mt. Bachelor offers Snowblast, a huge 9-acre tubing park with two custom lifts to tow the rider and Teflon-coated tubes to the top of the hill for a slide down full of twists, turns and laughs.

Just a short ride from Mt. Bachelor is Crater Lake, formed 7,700 years ago when Mount Mazama violently erupted and collapsed on itself.  Usually closed during the winter, the Forest Service opens for special group snowshoeing tours.  Additional fees apply.

If speed is more your style, take a snowmobile tour to the remote Elk Lake Resort.  Or why not get a jump on everyone going to Alaska for the Iditarod and take a dog sledding tour through the picturesque Deschutes National Forest.  Additional fees apply.

We will be staying at the 4-diamond Sunriver Resort.  Nestled in the Heart and Soul of the Great Northwest, Sunriver Resort is a unique blend of world-class recreation, luxurious amenities and Northwest ambiance.  You can snowshoe out your back door, enjoy the scenery from a sleigh or choose to relax at the Sage Springs Club & Spa.  There is plenty to do when you are not enjoying the fabulous skiing of Mt. Bachelor.  There is an indoor lap pool, five outdoor hot tubs, 35 miles of walking paths, hiking trails, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.
