Ski Town
USA
or “The Boat” will be the site of the 2009 TSC
Traditional ski trip. Steamboat is a small
town that is big on western heritage and hospitality. A 6900
feet the base area is easier on our bodies than some of the
higher resorts while the mountain still provides a vertical drop
of almost 3700 feet.
Between the almost 20,000 pillows
at all price ranges, outstanding and varied dining choices,
“champagne powder” and friendly people this should be a trip to
remember. With six peaks and almost 3000 acres we should have
plenty of choices for the 450 or so Texans during the week.
Steamboat broke a record last season with over 40
feet
of snow!
They had over 100 inches in
each
of the months of December, January and February! They have
recently made $16 million worth of on mountain improvements and
are in the process of rebuilding the mountain village!
When most people think of Steamboat Springs
they think of world-class skiing. It's even been dubbed
Ski Town USA. Olympians from Steamboat have made 120 appearances
in 16 Winter Games - more than any other town in North America.
Seven
mountain peaks provide over 179 downhill runs served by 24
lifts. Hundreds of miles of terrain!

After a day in the powder, try one of the
famous hot springs! Steamboat Springs was named for
the chugging sound made by one of our geothermal hot springs
- early settlers thought it sounded like a steamboat engine.
The spring no longer chugs (blasting by the railroad
silenced it in 1908), but warm mineral-rich waters still
flow.

You can experience the relaxation of our
springs at two private resorts:
There
will be the usual parties, racing and more parties during the
week.
Steamboat has always been a favorite of the TSC.
Come join me in
Steamboat for
a great
trip next January!
